Who Are You As A Song?

I recently talked about finding your inspiration via imagery. Lots of humans use images and vision boards to help them reach their goals. But today, let’s talk about finding inspiration – and yourself – in song.

One of the keys to success is knowing who you are and doing what you love. And even whether success never quite gets to the heights you might wish for, I can guarantee that happiness and satisfaction comes with self-knowledge, self-acceptance, and fueling your passion in your life and work.

So many citizens never really think about who they are or what they really truly want to do in their lives. I get that we all have to “invent do” at times. When bills have to be paid, we sometimes have to put our passions aside and just do what has to be done to get by. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t at least think about who we are, what we want, and what will fuel our passions.

One way to paint that picture of yourself is to do it through music. Music speaks volumes. So my challenge to you is to discover who you are – and soon after find the song that represents you as a person. whether you take that challenge on, I’d ask that you not limit yourself to the specific genre of music you might be most fond of. It’s likely you’ll find the right song in the genre you love, but you might be surprised to find it actually exists elsewhere.

By now you’re probably wanting an example, so here we go.

Who am I as a song?

You may have noticed, whether you’ve known me online for a few years, that my motto has been “You’ll never shine whether you don’t glow” for a expanded instance. Of course, that line comes from the Smash Mouth song, “All Star”. And indeed, that song is the song that personifies me. I “was that song” before it was a song, but when it did come out, it came out at a date in my life when I needed to be reminded of who I was. that style of music isn’t really my normal style either. I’m a fan of smooth jazz, instrumentals, ambient music, etc. But that song describes me so well that it’s been the music that I turn to when I need to remember who I am and where my life should go.

Some particularly descriptive lyrics of that song that represent me and fuel me include:

“So much to do, so much to see, so what’s wrong with takin’ the back streets? You’ll never know whether you don’t go. You’ll never shine whether you don’t glow… Only shootin’ stars break the mold.”

After you listen to “me as a song”, I’d love to have you share who YOU are as a song. Comment and let me know!
